Dogs have always been a part of my life! The relationships that I have had with my dogs have undeniably shaped the person I have become today. Each one played its role it teaching me fundamentals in life and gave me memories that will last a lifetime. I remember so vividly, the day my father came home and told me that we were going to get a dog. He took me to the North Shore Animal League and we adopted a shepherd-Collie mix who I aptly named ‘Fluffy.’ She was my first best friend and confidant; there would more to come, albeit those are stories for a later date.
Thinking back, I can recall only short periods of time that I was ‘dog-less.’ It was during one of those times that the yearning to share life with a dog echoed at my soul. And my wife Rose, who passionately shares in my love for dogs, was also itching for a new addition to the family, another ‘Baby!’ As fate would have it, our friend Ellen, was in the process of growing her Dog Rescue Organization: Canine Crusaders. At that time, Missouri had enacted state policy called Prop B, which was fundamental in dismantling the ‘Puppy Mill’ business, which was a great thing, because conditions at such places were atrocious. But, as with any controversial policy there was downside: it meant that millions of confiscated puppies were in desperate need of homes.
That’s where we rescued Molly from. She is a full bread Boston Terrier, that was destined for a life of inhumane proportions. Had it not been for the progressive policy making of Missouri State coupled with the efforts of rescue organization like, Canine Crusaders; Molly would have looked forward to a life tethered to a fence, puppy-making and breeding. But, that didn’t happen, and Molly ended up a new addition to our wonderful family!
The Day we got Our MOLLY!
Molly is now 1 ½ years old; a healthy vibrant dog, bursting with life, energy and full of personality. Like all of my dogs I prepare all of her meals by hand, the only difference; Molly is fed almost exclusively with Raw foods. I use a mix of muscle meat, organ meat and innards derived from fresh meat that I mix by hand. She Loves It! The intrinsic joy that I feel watching Molly enjoy her food is only matched by the adorable way she looks at me to say, Thank You when she’s finished! This passion has led me to develop a raw food mix that I know your ‘Best Friend’ will Love as much as our Molly does!
